He is taking legal action against a Sunday Independent article about him from October 2022, which he claims was defamatory.

Enoch Burke has rejected a claim that his reputation was already damaged before an article, which he claims was defamatory, was published in October 2022.

Mr. Burke is being cross-examined in his legal action against a Sunday Independent article that claimed he was moved to a different cell for annoying prisoners.

Enoch Burke is suing the media group, Mediahuis, over an article published one month after he was first jailed for contempt.

He claims it was baseless, untrue and damaged his reputation and future job prospects.

Under cross-examination today, he refused to accept that his reputation was already in flames before the article was published.

He said he was respectable and credible before publication, and that the article subjected him to public ridicule and portrayed him as someone who was acting like a maniac in prison, to the point where prison authorities had to intervene to avoid him getting a beating.

Mediahuis is defending the action on the grounds of fair and reasonable publication in the public interest.
